A father obliges a young boy and takes him to watch movies at New World, Singapore’s iconic entertainment venue of the 1960s and 1970s. The boy is enthralled, growing up on a gamut of film genres. He loves both the comedies and tragedies. He laughs and cries with the characters, experiencing their joys and sorrows, and even falling in love with some of them. The line between reality and flimsy film is marred even, when unwittingly he allows a merging of his life with what goes on in the film world. Oblivious to the real world at times, he is forced to face harsh reality with the unexpected death of his father. Distraught, his escape into his make-believe world also ends suddenly when he stops watching films at the New World.
The boy’s life’s journey is paralleled with the opening and closing of the New World Amusement Park, celebrating the glory days of a “World” lost and maybe even forgotten. For many who grew up watching movies at New World, just like the boy in the film, the place remains a memory – sweet, bittersweet, sometimes sad.

I Want to Remember is about personal memory - the unforgettable moments in our lives, whether sweet, bitter or bizarre. Good or bad, these life moments inform and influence the way we act, giving us strength in adversity and solace in sadness. But most importantly, memories give us hope; the hope to look forward to each coming day, in quiet anticipation of the next unforgettable moment that will add to our life story.
This new short film spotlights and celebrates personal memories of a diverse group of Singaporeans including a street opera artist, YouTube pop star and a muay thai boxer. A first for the Festival, this short film was commissioned in place of the Festival's usual television commercial with the 45sec version running on free to air TV, online as well as various outdoor media.

Kichiro is an only child born to a Japanese father and a Chinese mother. As his father is the CEO of a top Japanese company and his mother is the principal of a prestigious secondary school, all his classmates and friends, including his teachers, never treat him with any sincerity. They are nice to him simply because of whom his parents are. In addition, Kichiro also feels estranged from his parents as they are always busy working and never really spend much time with him. They think that by giving Kichiro the best in terms of material needs, they will be able to make up for their lack of time spent with Kichiro. Due to lack of monitoring and lots of free time on his own (a common problem in today's society when both parents are working), Kichiro spends his time indulging in pornographic materials and twisted stuff. He soon develops a fetish for bodily violence and he really feels 'alive' when he tries to execute it on Dawn, one of the girls who turn up at his house party. However, nobody knows about this perverted side of his. One day at a video shop, Kichiro meets Alex, who happens to be similar in character and background to him. They hit it off immediately as Alex invites Kichiro back home to watch some banned DVDs of extreme violence. They soon discover that both of them have always fantasized about putting such graphic violence into reality. This mutual revelation further strengthens their resolve to put the wanton violence they have seen on videos into action...
