Abbas Akbar

A Singaporean filmmaker, screenwriter, and actor, Abbas Akbar is noted for his work in the Tamil film and TV industry.

Having started his career as a short films maker, he won wide appreciation for his maiden short film, Certain Chapters that won the Best Short Film nomination at the Asian Festival of First Films.

Akbar has also directed the award-winning drama series, Vettai, which gained huge popularity among the Tamil audience in Singapore.
The show won a slew of awards at the Pradhana Vizha in 2011 and also won the Mediacorp Vasantham annual award for honoring the best in the local TV industry.

Following the huge success in the TV industry, Akbar directed his maiden Tamil feature film, Chennai 2 Singapore (2017), a comedy-romance starring Gokul Anand, Rajesh Balachandhiran, and Anju Kurian.
